MuseumAnkara PalasThe one Ankara site on the National Palaces' list of visitable units, across the street from the Second Parliament building. Guides who know the headset rule from Istanbul often do not expect it here, and it applies all the same.
MuseumAynalıkavak PavilionThe last building of a vanished shipyard palace on the Golden Horn, with a music museum on its ground floor. Much of the story is written in poems above the windows, which is hard to show a large group in a handful of rooms.
MuseumBeylerbeyi PalaceA summer palace whose best-known parts, the sea kiosks you see from the water, are closed to visitors. The visit is one building on a set route, and anything you want to say at length has to be said outside it.
MuseumDolmabahçe PalaceOne building about 320 metres long, seen on a route the palace sets, with a written headset rule for groups of more than eight. Almost everything a guide can decide is decided before the gate: the Selamlık tickets, the introduction in the garden, the day of the week.
MuseumIhlamur PavilionsTwo small pavilions in a valley garden, one for ceremony and one for the retinue. The garden is where you can talk; the rooms are too small to take a large group in at once.
MuseumMuseum of Islamic CivilizationsFifteen themed sections in the Büyük Çamlıca Mosque complex, entry free for Turkish citizens and ticketed for foreign visitors. A mixed group splits at the ticket office before it ever reaches the first room.
MuseumKüçüksu PavilionA pavilion built for a day out, not for living in: four rooms to a floor around a central hall, and no room large enough for a whole group. The talking happens in the hall and in the garden, and the rules decide the rest.
MuseumMaslak PavilionsMore than a dozen separate buildings in a large garden, where the future Abdülhamid II lived as a prince. The visit moves from building to building, so the briefing belongs outside, before the first door.
MuseumNational Palaces Painting Museum553 works in 34 themed sections, in the Crown Prince's Apartment at the Beşiktaş end of Dolmabahçe Palace and on the same ticket as the palace. Most groups reach it last, so whether it is in the programme is decided before the palace, not at the museum door.
MuseumPalace Collections MuseumThe old kitchens of Dolmabahçe Palace, now holding objects from every late Ottoman palace and pavilion, plus a store you can walk into. Thirteen themes is too many for one group visit, so the work is choosing which ones to stop at.
MuseumYıldız PalaceNot one palace building but a group of pavilions on a hillside, visited one door at a time. The talking happens in the gaps between buildings, and the MüzeKart opens some of those doors and not others.
MuseumYıldız Porcelain FactoryA porcelain works founded for the palace in the 1890s and still producing, inside Yıldız Park. It is closed at weekends, and that decides whether it fits your itinerary before anything else does.
